bible verses for bereavement cards

I have a friend going through loss at the moment, her mother has recently been ill and passed away.

She is quite religious, I am not but I would like to perhaps quote something from the bible to easer her suffering but not familiar with the topic.

Could you offer some help with some bible verses for bereavement cards, something that might suit this situation?

As it happens, I have written a page about bible verses for bereavement on the site already and here is a little template you might want to use when writing your card, with 3 options to choose from:

Option 1 – Using Psalm 34:18

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." – Psalm 34:18

I am thinking of you during this very difficult time. I hope you can feel God’s loving presence surrounding you and bringing comfort to your heart. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate this loss.

Option 2 – Using Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." – Matthew 5:4

I am holding you in my thoughts and praying that you find moments of peace and gentle comfort in the days ahead. May the love of God give you strength and ease your sorrow.

Option 3 – Using Revelation 21:4

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain." – Revelation 21:4

I hope these words bring you a measure of peace and hope, even in the midst of grief. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending love as you remember your dear mother.
