Bereavement Card Message

Hello

I need to write a bereavement card for a work colleague, they have lost their parent.

I don't know them that well but I would like to say something that is appropriate, not too flowery and familiar but does have some warmth and a bit more than just "sorry for your loss"

A couple of thoughts

Hi

I am not sure what sort of work place you are in so here are a couple of suggestions that could useful in either a formal work place or a more relaxed setting.

If you work in a legal setting for example, you might be more comfortable with a more formal approach.

but...

If you are in a general office work setting you might prefer the relaxed approach

Context is everything when writing a bereavement card message

Formal Workplace Culture

Option 1:

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your (parent). I hope you are finding the support and strength you need during this difficult time.

Option 2:

I was very sorry to learn of your bereavement. Wishing you peace and comfort as you navigate this period of loss.

Casual Workplace Culture

Option 3:

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you’ve got the support you need and are able to take the time to look after yourself.

Option 4:

So sorry to hear about the loss of your (parent) . I can’t imagine what you’re going through at this very sad time. Sending you a little peace.

Hope that helps a bit, please come back to me if I can help a little more, I am going to be writing more about topic in the near future as a lot of people sit there in front of writing a bereavement card and then just wonder what to say, you are definitely not on your own there :)

And a final little tip: I don't know about you but I really hate the word "passed" so I personally would avoid using it during correspondence or talking to the bereaved.

Someone has died and we seem to shy away from using the term, it is ok to use the word "died", I have learned this over quite a few years from quite a few people so don't be scared.
